Speaker: Dr. Prajina Bhattacharya,
Principal Engineer, Materials Engineering, MAE GKN Aerospace, Trollhatten, Sweden.
Abstract:
Abstract:
GKN has been venturing into fabricated products for aircraft engines to introduce Additive Manufacturing (AM) into components. In this context, Laser Direct Energy Deposition (LDED) is an attractive AM process from the standpoint of reducing cycle time and material wastage. The challenge lies in controlling defect size, population, understanding the interface, and overall maintaining property anisotropy within a limit. The talk will touch broadly on qualification strategies specifically for AM in contrast to conventionally processed materials and notes with regard to part criticality. It also aims to bring forth ongoing global consortia efforts at the community level for a broader perspective.
